Southeastern Center for Emerging Biologic Threats and Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health presents

Vectorborne Diseases of the Southeastern United States
Sponsored by the Duke University School of Medicine

May 8-9, 2007
Searle Center
Duke University

Target Audience: Physicians, veterinarians, nurses, public health staff, graduate students, medical students, etc.
Statement of Need:Physicians, public health personnel, and veterinarians need to be able to recognize the characteristics of transmission, symptoms, and treatments available for these various organisms to provide treatment for their patients. Being able to learn more about these organisms will allow them to recognize it sooner and to listen to what other states are doing for surveillance will allow them to enhance any system that may be lacking.
Learning Objectives: Participants should be able to:
·                 Share pertinent scientific information on the selected vectorborne diseases
·                 Describe similarities and differences between states in the Southeastern region
·                 Identify and discuss areas of controversies (i.e., guidelines)
·                 Identify and discuss issues unique to the Southeastern Region
This symposium is supported by funds through cooperative agreement #U38/CCU423095 from the CDC/U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
